Good Hockey Calls For Media Frenzy?

What a game last night between the Caps and Flyers.  A combined seven goals in the 2nd period, two from Alex Ovechkin and three from Brad Richards, also including a NHL-record four assists in that same period by a defenseman, Matt Carle.  This isn’t what was exciting me during last night’s broadcast, however.  It was the ridiculous amount of predictions in-between periods and in the news this morning.  This person will score this many goals, this team is in the top four in their conference, these guys are going to be in contention for the Cup.  Here’s a newsflash for you…IT’S THREE GAMES INTO THE SEASON!!

There’s been some great games so far this season, but I think the guys from “Strange Brew” could do a better job predicting the future of the 2009-10 NHL Season.

The Highlight of the Night

Check out this sick hit by Dion Phaneuf on Kyle Oposko…

Talk about a yard sale…his gloves and helmet came off instantly.  I wonder if his skates got knocked off too.  Anyway, welcome back NHL–God bless you.

Video of the Day: Ovechkin > Lebron

In the first round of the playoffs Alex Ovechkin proved he was better than the King–Henrik Lundqvist.  Now Charles Barkley chimes in to say Ovie is better than the King Lebron James.  First, Chris Webber claimed Lebron was the best “athlete” in sports, and Barkley claimed Ovechkin as the better athlete.  Maybe Chuck will add Ovie to his “fave five.”

Check out the video here from Washington Post reporter Mike Wise

The pause after he says Alex Ovechkin is priceless.

Also, check out the video at the bottom of Mike’s article of Ovechkin joining in on the “Hey You Suck!” chant.

Video of the Day: NHL Live! Blooper

So I got home from class today, and sat on my couch to eat some lunch and watch NHL Live!  A standard phone-caller came onto the show like usual to ask a question about the coaching job available in Minnesota.  Listen to the comment the caller makes at the end of the question.  I love Rob Simpson’s remark at the end, “Hey very nice tony”  haha you gotta love live TV.

Caps Head to Pitt with 2-0 Series Lead

In a game with two hat-tricks from the two biggest superstars in the league, continued miraculous saves by Simeon Varlamov, and just overall good hockey, the Caps came out victorious 4-3.

There is no question that Simeon Varlamov is the real deal.  He made some spectacular saves to keep the Caps alive, including two back-to-back saves on a 5 on 3 and some sick saves to keep the game at 2-1 in favor of the Penguins.  This allowed Alex Ovechkin and the Caps to come back and take the lead in this Eastern Conference Semi-final game.

The first game in the best of seven series between these heated rivals was everything the NHL and the fans had hoped it would be.  Alex Ovechkin verse Sidney Crosby.  Both players scoring in the 1st period, and Crosby getting absolutely robbed by Simeon Varlamov–the Caps new up-and-coming goaltender at the age of 21.

Video of the Day: All Hail Sergei

Sergei Fedorov looked like a man possessed last night.  He looked like the Sergei of the good-ol-days with his lightning speed and incredible shot.  So it’s time for a little throwback video.  Enjoy…
