Well the game started out great with Alexander Semin getting a nice backdoor goal on the power play. And then Jose Theodore made a couple nice saves, including a penalty shot after he threw his stick. But then the onslaught began…
The Panthers scored 13 seconds after the penalty shot on the powerplay, and then continued to demoralize the Caps. 3 more goals were scored by Florida in the first to give them a first period lead 4-1.
The Caps were coming off a huge Conference win last night against the Bruins, Matt Bradley shared his dissapointment to Mike Vogel of washingtoncaps.com…
“There are no excuses for what we did today,” said veteran Caps forward Matt Bradley. “Every guy was not prepared and we didn’t play a tight game at all. It’s disappointing when you have such a good game against Boston yesterday and come back with an effort like this. So we’re all individually going to have to look at ourselves and how we prepared and why we weren’t ready for the game.”
Some good news…Ovechkin scored another goal to increase his league lead to 7 ahead of the Devils Zach Parise. During this stage of the season a lot of players have some bruises and feel just fatigued. Hopefully the trade deadline coming up this weekend will bring back the same fire we saw from the Caps last year at this time. Going 3-3-0 in their last 6 home games isn’t a good sign as they have dominated at home all year.
Speaking of trade deadline rumors are going around that Michael Nylander is on the block as well as Chris Clark. Darren Dregger of TSN.ca thinks Bill Guerin might be headed to our nation’s capital–read more.
